General

Enterprise for BP®; Capture is an intelligent process capture platform that simplifies the creation of process definition documents (PDDs) by combining task extraction and computer vision to auto-generate screenshots, step descriptions, process data, and process flows from a process owner demonstration. Customers can then optimize the process by adding or modifying steps and then extract their completed PDD, more quickly and accurately, into their preferred file format, including a Blue Prism process outline, which reduces time to automation even further.
Functionality
- Capture – Automatically capture each step of a process from a process owner demonstration.
- Review – View the process map and individual steps that have been captured. Step through the process flow to review each step and description to ensure the process is reflected at the detail desired. Add decision diamonds to show process exceptions and branching paths where needed.
- Optimize – Optimize the process by rearranging and grouping actions from the as-is process to reflect the to-be process flow of the RPA solution. Customize each step by adding further descriptions, notes, or key-stroke level actions, without having to re-capture the process.
- PDD export – Export the full PDD in Microsoft Word format and receive a process map in both PDF and Visio formats.
- XML export – Export a skeleton of the process to XML format to import into Blue Prism Enterprise (v6.4 or later).

Capture will be available at no extra costs to all Blue Prism customers, with the software available to download on the Blue Prism Portal.

Capture will work with any program on the user’s computer.
For programs that require admin privileges (e.g. task manager), Capture will be required to be launched as administrator.

Capture is made available for download and use under these License Terms. A separate license key is not required to use it.

Further information can be found in the Capture online documentation.

Capture can be downloaded from the Blue Prism Portal.

See Migrate Capture processes for instructions on how to migrate your processes before installing Capture 2.0. You only need to migrate processes if you are upgrading from version 1.0.

The user interface is currently only available in English.

Capture is designed to be used by process owners who want to generate a Process Definition Document (PDD), ready to be used by developers.
Capture is also designed for process analysts to re-engineer and re-design the process captured by the process owner. The process analyst can then export the process as an XML file, ready to be handed over to the Blue Prism developer.

Yes. All Blue Prism partners have access.

Capture 2.0 is supported by the Blue Prism Global Customer Support team and is covered by the basic support package. There are no SLA response times for this product.
If you are a Blue Prim customer and would like to raise a support ticket, please contact customer support by following the normal process, as defined in How to get help from customer support on the customer portal.

Requirements

Capture is limited by the available memory of the user’s system. While there is no limit to the length of process, the complexity and total number of screenshots will impact memory performance.
See the Step limitations for more information.

Capture is released as a commercial software product that includes all relevant licensing within the main product.

As Capture is standalone, Blue Prism is not required to capture any processes.

At this current time, Capture supports Windows 10 .

No. If you are using Capture 1.0, please export any processes you want to store as a PDD and JSON and uninstall, before installing a later version of Capture. See Migrate Capture processes for details.

No,Capture 2.0 is a standalone application, a browser is not required to run the product.

The minimum hardware requirements are:
- 4GB RAM. However for stable performance we recommend 8GB RAM.
Further requirements can be found in the Capture Installation Guide.

See Step limitations for details of performance constraints caused by RAM availability.

Capture is simple software to use with no additional skills or training required. All that is required is familiarity with the programs that the users wish to record, and a review of the Capture online documentation.

No. Capture can be used without having a Wi-Fi connection.
Product Information

Capture has an export option which lays out a Blue Prism skeleton, ready to be loaded into Blue Prism as an XML file. To open the export in Blue Prism, you must have Blue Prism 6.4 or newer.

Yes. Capture works on any single or dual monitor configuration, as long as the monitors are or the same orientation and scale. See the installation guide for more details.

See Step limitations for a summary of the approximate limits of Capture, dependent on your RAM.

Supported file formats include: JPEG, PNG.

No.

To understand the rules applied to generate the Blue Prism skeleton from the capture process, see Blue Prism process layout overview.

You must have Microsoft Visio 2016 or later installed to be able to enable the Visio process map export options. All other export options (Word DOC, PDF, XML, JSON) do not require the export programs to be installed to generate the export file format.

See Import XML file into Blue Prism for details.

The auto generated process can be used as a starting point for Blue Prism development.
It is highly recommended that you review and follow the information contained in the Blue Prism Solution Design Overview and the Development Best Practices. These can be found in the Blue Prism Developer Mandatory Training course on the Blue Prism University. These contain information on how to convert an existing business process into a Blue Prism solution which is robust, scalable, and made up of highly reusable components.

Yes, Capture will work in a VM. It is recommended you have a minimum of 6GB RAM within your VM, as the Windows 10 operating system typically takes up 2GB of RAM.

The recorded process can be exported as a JSON file, which can then be shared with other users. This will require Capture to be installed on your colleague’s computer.
Security

Yes there are. Whilst Capture currently records all keyboard presses, including potentially sensitive data, such as passwords, if you are capturing a process that includes inputting sensitive data, there are a number of ways to omit that information. See Omit/remove sensitive data for details.

Log files are stored in the AppData folder on the user’s main drive in:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\BluePrism\Capture
If you require support, you may be asked to share your log files so that the support team can help identify the issue.

See Capture log files for details.
Roadmap and Future Functionality

Ideas and suggestions can be raised and voted on via the ideas community.

The Capture Product Team has an ambitious long-term vision for Capture that delivers significant innovation and value to Blue Prism customers. We welcome opportunities to discuss how new functionality in Capture can support development of automation processes. See the Capture roadmap on the Blue Prism Portal for more information.

The community is available for internal users and customers to request new features. Requests will be considered by the Product Manager and the engineering team. People who submit ideas and suggestions may be contacted by the Product Manager for further information or clarification. By using a community portal, Capture users can see the suggestions that may have already been submitted – avoiding duplication, promoting discussion, and providing voting abilities.
