Edit users' settings

When updating a user's settings in Blue Prism it is not necessary to update all settings at once – only the changed fields will be updated.

To edit a user's settings, right-click the user on the Security - Users screen and click Edit.

Edit an existing Blue Prism native user

The User Settings screen for an existing Blue Prism native user allows you to change the username and password for a user, the expiry dates of a user account and password, as well as their roles and permissions in Blue Prism.

Name and password

The password field contains a set number of dots to represent the existing password, regardless of the true length of the user's real password. Only if changes are made to one of the password fields will the user's password be updated.

  1. Right-click a user in the user list and click Edit. You can also select a user from the list and click Edit in the hamburger menu.

The Name and Password tab displays.

  2. Enter a new name for the user.
  3. Enter a new password for the user.
  4. Retype the password to verify.
  5. Click OK to save your changes.

Expiry dates

There are two expiry dates which can be set: the user expiry sets a date after which the user account will be made inactive, preventing the user from logging into Blue Prism; the password expiry sets a date on which the user will be forced to change their password.

  1. In user edit mode, navigate to the Expiry Dates tab.
  2. Enter a new expiry date for the user account.
  3. Enter a new expiry date for the user password.
  4. Select a password duration from the drop-down list.
  5. Click OK to save your changes.

Roles and permissions

Roles and permissions determine what actions an individual user may perform in Blue Prism. The roles which appear in the left panel of the Roles and Permission tab provide a quick way to grant a user a predetermined set of permissions. The use of roles and permissions is described in more detail in Blue Prism roles and user permissions, respectively.

To assign a user to one or more roles and their associated permissions:

  1. In user edit mode, navigate to the Roles and Permissions tab.
  2. Select or deselect roles in the left panel. The associated permissions with the roles with be selected/deselected by default.
  3. Click OK to save your changes.

Edit an existing Active Directory user

An Active Directory user's settings are managed in Active Directory so these details can only be viewed in the Attributes tab on the User Details screen.

The Roles and Permissions tab shows all roles assigned to an Active Directory user, either directly or via their Active Directory security group membership. Only roles assigned directly to the user can be edited in this tab. Roles assigned via security group membership can be edited on the Role Membership screen. For more details, see Blue Prism roles.

Edit an existing Authentication Server user

Only the roles and associated permissions assigned to an Authentication Server user can be changed in Blue Prism. All other user settings are managed in Hub. For more details, see the Hub administrator guide.
