Create a new database
Click Configure Connection on the Blue Prism login screen to open the Connection Configuration dialog. The required details will depend on the connection type selected but generally you will be asked to set a connection name and type, as well as a database server and name.
In the Connection Configuration dialog click Create Database. The Create a new database dialog displays.
Choose whether to drop and recreate the database if it already exists.
Blue Prism will create a database with the name supplied in the Connection Configuration dialog. If a database with the specified name already exists, you may either modify the existing database or you may purge (i.e. permanently and thoroughly delete) the existing database and create a new database with the same name in its place (recommended). Modifying an existing database may be useful if the database username under which Blue Prism runs does not have permission to drop and create databases. If a database with the specified name already exists, it is important to ensure that it is not in use by another application – this includes other instances of Blue Prism running on other runtime resources. If no database with the specified name already exists, selecting to drop and recreate the database will not have any effect.
Choose one of the two available authentication methods:
- Multi-authentication environment – this environment supports both Blue Prism native authentication and Active Directory authentication where roles are mapped to individual users in Blue Prism. When creating new users in a multi-authentication environment, administrators can select to create either a single Blue Prism native user, or one or more Active Directory users. The authentication type is configured as part of the user creation and cannot be changed later.
- Single-authentication environment – referred to as Active Directory Single Sign-On in previous versions of Blue Prism, this environment supports Active Directory authentication where users log in via Active Directory only and roles are mapped to Active Directory security groups. To set up a single-authentication environment, it is necessary to enter the name of the domain that contains the Active Directory security groups that are to be associated with security roles in Blue Prism and to select the security group within that domain whose members will be granted system administrator access to Blue Prism.
For more details, see Authentication in Blue Prism and Single sign-on.
Once you have entered all the required details in the Create a new database dialog, click OK to create the database. A confirmation message displays.
If you have successfully configured Active Directory authentication in a single-authentication environment, then you should be signed in automatically. If you experience issues, check your settings (see Single sign-on troubleshooting) and try again. Note that Active Directory changes may not take effect until you log off and log in again.
If you are using Blue Prism native authentication then you can sign in to the new database using the username "admin" and the password "admin". You will be prompted to change the password once you log in.
To configure Active Directory authentication in a multi-authentication environment in Blue Prism, you first have to log in using Blue Prism native authentication and enable Active Directory authentication in a multi-authentication environment (see Sign-On Settings). You must then create Active Directory users in Blue Prism and map them to Blue Prism user roles, in order for the Sign in using Active Directory option to display on the Blue Prism login screen for the configured users.
